Baking Soda FAQs
What is baking soda?
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a natural leavening agent that helps baked goods rise and achieve a light, fluffy texture.
How do I use baking soda in baking?
It’s most often paired with acidic ingredients (like lemon juice, vinegar, or buttermilk) to create carbon dioxide bubbles, which lift and soften cakes, cookies, muffins, and breads.
Can I use baking soda for cleaning?
Yes. Baking soda doubles as a gentle, natural cleaner and deodorizer around the home. It can freshen laundry, clean surfaces, and neutralize odors.
Is baking soda the same as baking powder?
No. Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate, while baking powder contains baking soda plus an acid and a starch. Baking soda requires an acid in the recipe to activate.
Does your baking soda contain additives or aluminum?
No. Quay Naturals Organic Baking Soda is 100% pure sodium bicarbonate — no fillers, no preservatives, and no aluminum.
