An ancient grain native to West Africa. It is similar to rice, couscous, and Quinoa. Often referred to as seed of the universe. Fonio is rich in protein, amino acids. It is naturally gluten free and of a slightly nutty flavor.

Gluten-Free and Nutritious: Fonio is an excellent source of protein (up to 18%), fiber (up to 70%), iron and magnesium and is also gluten-free and vegan.

Easy to Prepare: Fonio can be prepared like rice or couscous but requires less time (3-5 minutes) and does not need to be presoaked.

Versatile and Delicious: Our fonio super-grain can be used in a variety of dishes, both warm and cold, such as soups, salads, stews, stir-fries and even as a porridge.

How To Cook It

Consider using it as a substitute for quinoa, rice, or couscous in salads, soups, stir-fries, or as a side dish.

In a bowl

combine 1/2 cup of fonio with 1 cup of water. Cover tightly and cook the mixture for 2 minutes. Afterward, give it a good stir and let it sit for another 3 minutes. Fluff the fonio with a fork before serving.

In a pan

add 1/2 cup of fonio and 1 cup of water. Bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 3minutes while stirring frequently. Fluff the fonio with a fork and it's ready to be served. Or try as an alternative to porridge:

Microwave

1/2 cup of fonio with 2 cups of milk for 4 minutes. Allow it to rest for 2 minutes before serving.

To prepare on a stovetop, take 21/2 cups of milk and bring it to a boil. Then, let it simmer for 6-10 minutes, stirring frequently. If needed, feel free to add more milk to achieve your desired consistency
